From a home grill in Villa María del Triunfo
Brandon Altamirano started selling anticuchos from his house in Villa María del Triunfo when he was 18. In 2016, at 22, he won Anticucho con corazón, the reality competition Gastón Acurio ran to find Lima's best anticuchero, and on 27 April 2016 he opened a barra parrillera in Surquillo: a grill and a counter, mostly standing.
He later tried a bigger dining room on Av. Del Ejército. It closed in the 2020 crisis, and the Surquillo bar is what stayed.
What comes off the grill
Beef-heart anticuchos, which is the whole point, served with three house sauces built on rocoto, huacatay and huancaína. He also delivers.
Going there
- Address: Jr. San Pedro 308, Surquillo.
- Hours: evenings. Sources disagree on the opening time (from 15:00 in 2021, from 18:00 in later listings), so check their social media the day you go.
- Format: a grill bar, so expect to eat standing or on a stool, and expect smoke.
Surquillo is next to Miraflores, which makes this the easy way to eat anticuchos from someone who's won a title for them without crossing the city.
